Programme of the Feast of Sant’Agostino 2026
From 27 to 29 August 2026, Alà dei Sardi honours its patron saint with the Feast of Sant’Agostino, one of the most heartfelt celebrations in the Monteacuto. The main day is 28 August, the liturgical feast of the saint, with a solemn mass and procession accompanied by the Coro Santu Austinu and the town band. Throughout the three days, the historic centre hosts a free prosciutto fair and a folk parade in traditional dress.

History and Traditions of the Feast of Sant’Agostino
The Feast of Sant’Agostino is the beating heart of community life in Alà dei Sardi, a village of the Monteacuto in the province of Olbia-Tempio. Sant’Agostino of Hippo, celebrated on 28 August, is the principal patron of the village; his parish church was built between the late nineteenth century and 1961 and consecrated that same year. The building features a local granite façade with four statues — Saints Peter and Paul at the base, Saint Francis and Sant’Agostino above — and a three-nave interior with a fine seventeenth-century mosaic of the Madonna of the Rosary. The church belongs to the Diocese of Ozieri.
By tradition, the entire festival is organised by the fedales cinquantenni — the men of the village who turn fifty that year — following a practice of community service handed down through generations. This form of collective organisation is one of the most distinctive aspects of Alaese culture and gives the feast a strong sense of local identity. The three days of celebration weave together popular devotion, music, traditional dress and the celebrated local gastronomy, with the prosciutto fair as the culinary thread running through the entire event.
